STATEMENT

My work deals with coping with a silenced past, and life in the shadow of the concealment of my family history during the Nazi regime in Europe, and scarring immigration and adaptation experiences. Born and raised on Moshav Hayogev in the Jezreel Valley, I look at issues concerning my identity as a daughter of a traditional family living in a secular environment, and growing up as a second generation of immigrants who needed to internalize two cultures that violently denied each other's existence during the "melting pot" initial years of the The State of Israel.

 

Looking at reality through the camera viewfinder enables me to express my thoughts and feelings more effectively in a visual language, than the verbal language at my disposal. Dealing with the subject of my son Gilead's death, who was killed in action in The Second Lebanon War, on August 9th, 2006, I wish to speak about his personality and actions- thinking of his life and choices, in addition to the effect of his loss on me, on weekdays, holidays and memorial days. However, I also search for ways to say that life goes on, and look to the future with hope.
